LongLife Health SPA – Wellness & Beauty SPA

The LongLife Health SPA is an important redevelopment project within the prestigious thermal complex of the Grand Hotel in Castrocaro. A land famous for its precious waters already used in Roman times and which flow from three main sources. In addition to the benefits of thermal waters and mud, the innovative scientific project Long Life Formula has been adopted. Inside the renovated Lucia Magnani Health Clinic, it works to extend the expectation and quality of life through dedicated treatments.

All this happens within the frame of the historic architectural complex in Art Déco style unique in Italy; built between the thirties – forties and decorated by the famous Tito Chini.
Respecting a historical context of great value, the project always sought a dialogue with the style of the existing structure; by developing a language capable of uniting the elements of the Déco world with contemporary design characters. So the result is a timeless space, suspended in a place both in between classicity and modernity.

The project (entirely designed and completed in 6 months) involved the construction of exclusive treatment rooms which complete the path of the thermal SPA at the basement. Seven different cabins for face-body treatments, holistic cabins for Ayurveda and finally SPA Suites for exclusive and private SPA experiences.

The new LongLife Health Spa layout

To allow the required demolition works requested by the new layout it was crucial to have a structural reinforcement of the whole plan. Therefore it was realized a secondary steel structure inside the building, to absorb all the loads from the upper floors. Above all the design had to deal with these new structural elements, which we decided to “incorporate” in the compositional choices of the spaces. However avoiding the perception of this important intervention.

The project completely changed the spatial configuration in order to adapt to the new internal paths. The most important intervention involved the demolition of masonry walls to create the new SPA reception. From here begins the long corridor leading to the various cabins; a long wenge boiserie hides the doors that open towards evocative and magical worlds.
In fact we designed each cabin to be perceived as a small world totally different from the rest. In each space it is possible to live always different experiences and sensations that surprise the visitor through atmospheres created also with careful lighting design.

The new LongLife Health Spa treatment rooms

In all the cabins for face and body treatments, the theme of light was very important to us. Especially with regard to chromotherapy, activated by touch panels that allow the selection of the entire chromatic spectrum. For the best possible experience we have designed a particular ceiling consisting of a dome that allows a homogeneous diffusion of the LED light. Thanks to the special shape, the light diffuses into the room and wraps the bed underneath it.

In addition to the traditional cabins we have two holistic cabins, one for Ayurveda treatments and the other for Shiatsu massages on the ground on tatami mats. An environment that seeks contact with the Japanese tradition. Through the aroma of cedar wood it is possible to immerse yourself completely in nature, like in a primitive forest. On the other hand , the two suites offer private spa experiences. The suite with the black Sauna and Onsen tube represents the fusion of Japanese and Finnish culture; while the suite with Hammam is the evocation of the Arab world. The two suites can be connected to each other through an internal passage and from these it is also possible to go out and reach the thermal pool on the basement floor.

Particular attention deserve the two special beauty treatment cabins dedicated to Lucia Magnani Skincare, an Italian brand of high quality cosmetic products made with the precious thermal waters of Castrocaro.

The technical components

In addition, another fundamental theme of the project were the mechanical and hydraulic systems; which made necessary a constant confrontation with all the technicians in order to guarantee a perfect integration of all the components in the design project.
The air conditioning system is of all-air type and the distribution of air in the various cabins takes place through special ducts. In fact they are made of material suitable for resisting thermal water vapours. In all the rooms it is possible to independently control the internal thermohygrometric conditions.
Each cabin has a supply of Sulphurous, Salsobromoiodic and normal water which can be selected through a special panel specifically designed for this purpose. All the pipes (3 for each type of water) are located in technical cabinets inside each room.  Here we placed the solenoid valves that control the selection and distribution of each water installed.
